Acne vulgaris & homeopathy

 

Acne can be a very complex condition, often associated with complicated underlying causes.  Acne is often linked to an increase in hormones called androgens (male sex hormones). Another possible cause of acne is related to hormonal changes related to pregnancy, heredity or some types of drugs etc.  Hormonal activity supposed to be responsible includes menstrual cycles, PCOS syndrome and puberty.

Allopathic treatment suggests antiseptic applications, extended courses of oral antibiotics, contraceptive pills for girls and in severe cases a vitamin A acid treatment (Roaccutane or Accutane).

Doctors prescribe Accutane when other acne treatments fail.

Common side effects of Accutane drug is:

• depressed mood, trouble concentrating, sleep problems, crying spells, aggression or agitation, changes in behaviour, hallucinations, thoughts of suicide or hurting yourself;
• sudden numbness or weakness, especially on one side of the body;
• blurred vision, sudden and severe headache or pain behind your eyes, sometimes with vomiting;
• hearing problems, hearing loss, or ringing in your ears;
• seizure (convulsions);
• severe pain in your upper stomach spreading to your back, nausea and vomiting, fast heart rate;
• loss of appetite, dark urine, clay-coloured stools, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes);
• severe diarrhoea, rectal bleeding, black, bloody, or tarry stools;
• fever, chills, body aches, flu symptoms, purple spots under your skin, easy bruising or bleeding;
• severe blistering, peeling, and red skin rash; or

Natural holistic treatment is sometimes necessary because conventional medicines have many side effects.

In homeopathy we tend to prescribe on the totality of the symptoms, however there are a number of homeopathic remedies that are indicated for acne.

In my practice for acne I would recommend locally antiseptic applications of a specific natural tincture.

I tend to use different remedies. Mostly my choice of remedy indicated for acne include : Aurum metalicum, Calcarea silicate, Carbo animalis, Causticum, Conium maculatu, Hepar sulfur, Kalium bromatum, Nux vom, Silica, and Sepia .

The selection of the remedy depends on the individual symptoms- location of acne or appearance etc.
