Acne vulgaris & homeopathy
Acne could be very complex condition and very often with a complicated underlying causes. The cause of acne is unknown; however several related factors are common. Acne is often linked to increase in hormones called androgens (male sex hormones). Another possible cause of acne is related to hormonal changes related to pregnancy, heredity or some types of drugs etc. Hormonal activity supposed to be responsible, such as menstrual cycles, PCOS syndrome and puberty.
Allopathic treatment suggests antiseptic applications, extended courses of oral antibiotics, contraceptive pills for girls and in severe cases a vitamin A acid treatment (Roaccutane or Accutane).
Doctors prescribe Accutane when other acne treatments fail.
Common side effects of Accutane drug is:
- depressed mood, trouble concentrating, sleep problems, crying spells, aggression or agitation, changes in behaviour, hallucinations, thoughts of suicide or hurting yourself;
- sudden numbness or weakness, especially on one side of the body;
- blurred vision, sudden and severe headache or pain behind your eyes, sometimes with vomiting;
- hearing problems, hearing loss, or ringing in your ears;
- seizure (convulsions);
- severe pain in your upper stomach spreading to your back, nausea and vomiting, fast heart rate;
- loss of appetite, dark urine, clay-coloured stools, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes);
- severe diarrhoea, rectal bleeding, black, bloody, or tarry stools;
- fever, chills, body aches, flu symptoms, purple spots under your skin, easy bruising or bleeding;
- severe blistering, peeling, and red skin rash; or
- joint stiffness, bone pain or fracture.

Natural holistic treatment is sometimes necessary because conventional medicines have many side effects.
In homeopathy we tend to prescribing on the totality of the symptoms, however there are a number of homeopathic remedies that are indicated for acne.
In my practice for acne I would recommend locally antiseptic applications of a specific natural tincture.
I tend to use different remedies. Mostly my choice of remedy indicated for acne is next : Aurum metalicum, Calcarea silicate, Carbo animalis, Causticum, Conium maculatu, Hepar sulfur, Kalium bromatum, Nux vom, Silica, and Sepia .
Selection of the remedy depends on individual symptoms- location of acne or appearance etc.
Beside tinctures and homeopathic remedies I always recommend a specific mix combination of Tissue salts and organ support remedies for liver, spleen & pancreas.
Combination formula of tissue salt which I recommend is mix of Calc sulph , Kali mur , Kali sulph , and Silica but also this combination depend on type of acne which patient has.
